Eve Arden Photo Our Miss Brooks premiered on CBS July 19, 1948 and soon became one of the network's most popular comedies, running for nine consecutive years. Eve Arden played a fun-loving but sometimes frazzled English teacher, Connie Brooks, a role for which she won an Emmy.

The bashful biology teacher Phillip Boynton, whom Miss Brooks loved to chase, was played by Jeff Chandler. Osgood Conklin, Madison High's harried principal, was played by veteran performer Gale Gordon. Leonard Smith played the school idiot, "Stretch" Snodgrass. Jane Morgan appeared as Mrs. Davis, the owner of the apartment building. Richard Crenna played Walter Denton, the show's "Henry Aldrich". Gloria McMillan played Harriet, the principal's daughter.
